 2010 Tour of Homes
Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1
Plans are well underway for the 2010 Tour of Homes which is sponsored by the Big Canoe Chapel Women’s Guild. Since its inception in 1989, the Tour has raised over $870,000 for local charities in Pickens and Dawson counties and has brought hundreds of volunteers together who are inspired to make a difference for our neighbors in need.
One of the best aspects of the Tour of Homes is the opportunity to strengthen and form lasting friendships through volunteering. Here are some ways you can help.
Volunteers Needed
Bear Paw Bakery - Please bring your baked goods to the Broyles Center on Thursday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Baked goods will also be accepted Friday and Saturday mornings (April 30 and May 1). If you can spare a few hours to work at the Bakery Friday or Saturday, please call Frankie Rehg (706-268-1294) or Jan Cates (706-268-2084)
Book Nook is requesting donations of paperback and hard backed books, CD’s, audio and video tapes and books on tape/CD. Place your donations in the Book Nook Collection Boxes located in the Postal Facility and Fitness Center. And if you love books, you are the perfect Book Nook Volunteer! Helpers are needed during the week prior to the Tour (April 25-29) to organize and set up book displays as well as during the Tour (April 30, May 1) to assist shoppers. Contact Glenda Molton at 706-268-1595 to volunteer.
Angels in the Woods . . . making a difference one halo at a time . As the Tour of Homes approaches, it is an especially good time to consider honoring an Angel or remembering an Angel. The total amount of your (tax deductible) contribution will go directly to the charities in Dawson and Pickens counties which have been selected by the BCC Women’s Guild. Contribution forms can be accessed on the TOH website (http://bigcanoetour.org)
Collectors' Corner - Gently used home accessories, china, crystal, silver, linens, antiques, collectibles and small furniture are needed. Tax receipts are available. Volunteers also needed to set up prior to the TOH and to assist with sales during the Tour. Contact Verna Rauschenberg (706-579-2249) or Patsy Wohlwend (706-268-1045) to volunteer or to donate items. Pick up available if you are not able to store items until April 26.
Crazy Bear Café – will be serving breakfast and lunch from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tour days in its time-honored spot next to the Chapel bell tower. Hungry volunteers please call Eberhard Noll at 706-268-1908 if you can help.
Home Hostesses - Volunteers still needed to serve as host/hostesses in all four homes, both Friday and Saturday. Sign up at Stand Around on March 21 or contact Martha Elkins (
